Holiday Peace Concert Songbook

Holiday Peace Concert Songbook by Jennifer Russell

This collection of songs takes us through 3 Holiday celebrations; Hanukah, Christmas and Kwanzaa.  It celebrates diversity in unity and peace.  It is simple, easy to learn and meaningful.

This concert was created for  Public School.  It is so universal that it can also be used for Faith Communities, children and adult choirs.

Oil for Just One Day This song celebrates the tradition of Hanukah and our religious freedom.  After many years of battle, the Jews won their freedom and reclaimed their temple form the Syrians.  As they were cleaning up and relighting the menorah, they realized there was only enough oil for JUST ONE DAY…the ceremony lasted for 8 days.  A miracle.

Merry, Merry Christmas This song is a Christmas Card from the heart.

Fa-La-La-La-La-La taking the traditional Deck the Halls, this song is just for fun and celebrates the 3 traditions in one song.

The Dance of Life This song is a round.  It was inspired by my Uncle Joe Smith.  He lived, worked and danced in the Himalaya Mountains of India.

The Gifts this time of year we give gifts to each other.  The most valued gifts we can give each other can only be seen with the heart.

Habari Gani- What’s the News? Kwanzaa is almost 40 years old.  It is a celebration similar to an African Harvest Festival.  It begins on December 26th and finishes on New Years day.  It was created to bring pride and guiding principles to the African American community.  “Habari Gani” which means ‘what’s the news?’ takes us throught the 7 day celebration.  These guiding principles are great for any community.

Compassion If we all practiced compassion daily, it would change the world.

Unity Brings Peace We are all connected.  Unity creates beauty from diversity.
